Do I have to verify my domain contact information?

Yes.  As per the policies implemented by ICANN regarding RAA (Registrar Accreditation Agreement) in January 2014, the domain owner must verify the contact information listed in Domain Contacts to make sure the email address is valid.

Under the following circumstances, the domain Registrant (owner) will receive an email with the subject "IMPORTANT! Verify your contact information for mynewcoolsite.com"  (but mynewcoolsite.com will actually be replaced with whatever your actual domain name is):

  1.  When a new domain is registered with an email address that was not previously verified; or
  2.  After completion of a domain transfer between registrars *; or
  3.  Whenever Domain Contact information is changed;
  4.  Whenever a domain renewal results in refresh of the same Domain Contact information, but the email address was originally entered pre-ICANN requirements and therefore remains unverified.
This email will be sent to the new/unverified email address listed as a Domain Contact.  You must click the verification link in that email to confirm it is a valid email address. If not confirmed by the registrant within 15 days, the Domain will be put on hold by the TLD Registry itself.

* Note:  Only the verification email from the CURRENT registrar is valid.  If you transfer a domain registration to us, you can safely ignore any verification emails from your old registrar.  Some registrars unethically continue to send these emails after a domain is no longer registered with them, in a twisted sort of high-pressure sales tactic to make you think you will lose your domain.  Be sure you verify only for the correct registrar.  Or just check with us if you have any questions or concerns.
